LASA GRANT & CSA

The days are getting longer and we are giddy with excitement for the new farm season. This month (Jan) we are launching our 2021 CSA home delivery program — with last year’s members, supporters, and customers receiving an email invitation before shares are made public. Look for it or get in touch. We’re grateful for your support! This year we will continue growing and gradually scaling-up to serve more people across the Newport County community with fresh, sustainably-grown goods.

Winter has been kind — so far. We’ve mapped-out crop placement, planting dates, and bed rotations; ordered seeds, plants, tubers, cover crops, and supplies. We’re building a few new “high tunnels” to extend the growing season and make off-season crop work more enjoyable.

Currently, we are clearing brush and trees to expand the vegetable garden after setting-up a mobile coop for a flock of chickens. We can’t wait to provide farm-fresh, free-range eggs (and for some help with weed and pest control).

We received our first farming grant through Rhode Island DEM’s LASA program for farmers and fishermen/women. With it we’ll be able to expand and add another plot of growing space for vegetables, including irrigation, fencing, seed money and more. This Winter we bought a cool, vintage USA-Made Wheel Horse tractor, and started a farm journal… All in all, it’s off to a good start.

Look for more CSA announcements and an email invitation to join our weekly home delivery route. Thank you again for your continued support!
